Against the Tide and Measuring Stick

00:24:21 1979-1980

Measuring Stick were two performances on littoral zones in which the artist waited for the arrival of the high tide. The first was set at Durras beach on New South West coast; the second one was part of the 'Artist's Week' at Glenelg beach in Adelaide.

Camera: John Tomkins.

Against the Tide was an interior performance based on the artist’s experiences from Measuring Stick; the artist was gradually stripped of his cultural veneer.

Camera: Dick Larter at the Art Centre of CSU, Wagga Wagga.

The 2 tapes of these performances were intended to be played simultaneously; now this is achieved by split screen restoration.

DVD available.
