Yandell Walton
Statement
Yandell Walton’s practise incorporates the medium of video and projection installation combining moving images with three-dimensional spaces and objects. Her practice attempts to blur the distinction between the physical and optical with the use of new media. Working within the constraints of a particular site Yandell’s projects respond directly to these sites conceptually and/or logistically. She pushes the medium of projection art incorporating the existing architecture, environment or object.
In 2005 Yandell completed a Masters of Fine Art degree at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She has a growing profile exhibiting regularly in galleries and non-traditional public spaces both in her home country, Australia and internationally. Recent exhibitions include public commissions in Victoria, a site-specific projection installation in Berlin Germany and inclusion in the Shanghai Art and Technology Exposition.
In 2008 Yandell travelled to New York after receiving an Australia Council for the Arts (OZCO) grant to work with mentor, Martina Mrongovius, to develop her skills. Whilst in New York The Gershwin Hotel commissioned her to create a site-specific video work for permanent installation in their elevator. She recently participated in the 2009 Gertrude Projection Festival in Melbourne as the Feature Artist.
